Torch-on Elastomeric Membrane
Torch-on elastomeric membrane — also called torch-applied SBS roofing — is the modern standard for flat and low-slope roofs in Quebec. Modified-bitumen sheets are heat-welded with a torch to create a continuous, flexible membrane that stands up to freeze-thaw cycles, UV and building movement.
We install two-ply systems (base sheet + cap sheet) on new construction, full tear-offs and re-covers where the deck allows it, with careful attention to flashing, drains and penetrations — the points where most flat roofs fail.
When torch-on membrane makes sense
- ◆Your flat roof is past 20–25 years and repairs are becoming frequent
- ◆You're finishing new construction or a flat-roof addition
- ◆An inspection has flagged widespread membrane failure rather than isolated damage
- ◆You're replacing an aging built-up roof or worn membrane system
[ Our Process ]
How it works
- STEP_01
Site assessment
We inspect the deck, drainage and insulation, and confirm slope and structural capacity before quoting.
- STEP_02
Tear-off or prep
Existing membrane removed where required, deck repaired, insulation boards set and taped.
- STEP_03
Base sheet
The first elastomeric ply is torch-welded with overlapping seams for continuous waterproofing.
- STEP_04
Cap sheet
The granulated finish ply is torched over the base, forming the UV- and weather-resistant two-ply system.
- STEP_05
Flashing & details
Parapets, drains, curbs and penetrations are flashed and sealed — the details that determine a roof's actual lifespan.
- STEP_06
Final walkthrough
Photo documentation, seam check, and a written 10-year warranty handed over on completion.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a torch-on installation take?
Most residential and small commercial roofs are completed in 2–5 days depending on size and weather. Larger buildings are scheduled in phases so occupied sections stay watertight throughout.
Can you install over my existing roof?
Sometimes — it depends on deck condition and how many existing layers are already in place. Our site assessment will tell you whether a tear-off is required or whether a re-cover is structurally sound.
What warranty comes with a torch-on membrane?
Every installation includes a written 10-year warranty on materials and workmanship, backed by our RBQ license and insurance.
Torch-on or shingles — which do I need?
Shingles suit pitched roofs; torch-on elastomeric membrane is built for flat and low-slope roofs. We assess your building and recommend the right system.
